In light of Jesus teaching, what is meant by Christians when they say, "accept Christ?" Does this paint an accurate portrait of salvation for one considering "the way?" why or why not?

i think that the term "accept Christ" refers to accepting what Christ has given to us - salvation. "I stand at the door and knock, and if anyone hears my voice..." Christ calls to US, and we chooose to deny or accept him.
i think that "accepting Jesus into your heart" is a phrase that would be hard to understand and is a little...ah, what's the word... out there, ya know?
